Edelweiss Preparatory School operates in the Cambrian Heights Community Association hall. We have been here since 1988 and we continue to enjoy our relationship with this lovely community that has been so supportive of our school over the years contributing to the longevity and success of the school.
During this 28th year, the Edelweiss students have had a wonderful school year full of educational experiences! They have had weekly Science experiments with Captain Science and weekly Music & Spanish lessons with amazing teachers.
Various classes went on field trips to the Corn Maze, the Aerospace Museum, Alberta Ballet, The Fish Hatchery, Mt. Pleasant Art Centre, Safety City and the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. Of course, the yellow school bus ride is always a big highlight no matter where we take them!
They have benefitted from in class presentations from the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, the Humane Society, Pedal Heads Bike Safety, Clay for Kids and Christopher Cool the Magician’s shows on Halloween Safety and Recycling. The Kindergarten students have learned about different cultures complimented by special presenters from 10 countries in the world.
At Christmas, the children took part in an Artist in Residence program and after the workshops performed the Nutcracker in a Nutshell to the delight of their parents.
The Kindergarten children have an enriched art program including studying the works of famous artists and exposure to various techniques and mediums such as paper mache, Chinese brush painting, soapstone carving and pottery to just name few.
As part of our Virtues program, the children have learned 10 different virtues to help them develop holistically. Edelweiss is an endorsed ECO HEALTHY child care program and we teach the children monthly thematic units on the environment and how to care for our world and each other.
This year Edelweiss won an award in the Best Preschool category from Calgary’s Child for the ninth time!
To end off the year the children enjoyed a concert from Ballooner Landing TV hosts Lee & Sandy Paley and a Butterfield Acres Petting Farm came to Edelweiss for a fun western themed day!
