While City crews are out cleaning up the loose gravel and debris off our streets, all City staff can help make the annual Spring Clean-Up program a success by spreading the word about some significant changes.
- Seven days a week: This year, crews will be sweeping seven days a week, an increase from four days a week in the past. This means residents can expect to see sweepers in their neighbourhoods on the weekend and must remove vehicles and waste bins from the street at that time.
- Earlier finish: This year, street sweeping will run from April 3 to June 1, finishing a full month earlier than previous years. The accelerated sweeping schedule will reduce the amount of material that can get washed into our storm sewer system. It also allows crews to focus on other summer activities such as pothole repair and boulevard maintenance.
- New parking restrictions: This year, all communities will be subject to parking fines with vehicle owners required to remove vehicles off the roadway during schedule sweeping. Residents need to look for the large street sweeping signs and/or small no-parking signs and following the parking restrictions outlined on sign.
- E-alerts: This year, residents will be able to sign up to receive an email notice alerting them that sweeping will occur on their street the next day. This feature will be available at Calgary.ca/sweep as of April 3.
To find out when sweeping is scheduled, residents are asked to watch for community signs or visit calgary.ca/sweep.
