First of all we wish everyone a happy and healthy 2017. January will be a very active month in Cambrian Heights as we undertake three new Winter Programs and hold our third annual Polar Party.
On January 14 we will host an introductory Cross Country Skiing course in association with theFoothills Nordic Club. The following Saturday, January 21 will provide to residents a Nordic Winter Walking or Snowshoeing introductory session. Pre-registration is required and can be accessed, as well as additional information, only at our website (www.cambrianheightscommunity.com). This will then be followed by our annual free Polar Party at the Hall on Saturday, January 28. We hope you and your children will attend one or all three events. The Polar Party has grown in size every year and offers free rental skates, helmets, a fire pit plus games, treats and hot chocolate for all ages. Of course, volunteers are always encouraged to help with the organization of these activities for the children.
Future events through the first quarter of the year will include a Games Night February 11 and a Wine Tasting March 11. Of course, the ice rinks will be maintained throughout the winter for all to access. Should you wish to help out the current rink volunteers, please contact Scott at 403-289-3129.
As we have previously discussed in these monthly messages, our Planning Committee continues to be actively monitoring the issuance of Development Permits (“DP’s”) by the City in our community. This activity covers the gauntlet from secondary suites in RC-1 neighbourhoods, to best guidelines for maintaining the identity of our community with growth and densification, to long-term transportation issues like the Green Line LRT. Everyone should remain vigilant as to development on their streets. If there are questions or concerns, write to the Community Association (cambrianheights@gmail.com) or contact Daryl Beatty or Gary Wilson of the Planning Committee.
We continue to use a Facebook page to help communications and stimulate informational sharing and discussion amongst residents of the Community. It is under “Groups” with an address of “cambrianheightscommunity”. Please register for the Group and join this conversational page and share your thoughts and insights about where you live.
As a reminder, your 2017 membership dues are now payable. We are maintaining our fee schedule costs for the year to encourage your renewal. The easiest way to renew or join is through our website or if you wish via mail as outlined in the monthly Cambrian Heights Newsletter. The Board encourages all residents to participate in the community activities and future events. It is with great satisfaction that over 800 people have attended the nine social events this past year. If you are interested in exploring involvement with the Board or any specific volunteer activity, please contact us at our email address. The next meeting will take place Monday, January 9 at the Georgina Thomson building on 14th Street and Northmount Drive NW at 6:30 PM.
Remember Participation Builds Better Communities.
On Behalf of the Board;
Daryl Connolly, President
